University of Maryland University College faculty awards
The University of Maryland University College at their May 9, 2013 Faculty Awards dinner presented Barbara Puffer, MA, ABC, IABC Fellow with two certificates of recognition: Notable Scholarly Activity in the Area of Professional Publications for news writing about a Supreme Court case on gene patents, and for being named a Fellow of IABC in 2012.

Barbara Puffer, ABC Named IABC Fellow
The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has named Barbara Puffer, ABC* an IABC Fellow. The IABC Fellow Award is the highest honor the association can bestow on a member, and acknowledges outstanding leadership, professional accomplishment and service to IABC and the profession. The award will be presented at the opening general session of the association's World Conference in Chicago in June.

Fellow selection criteria include contribution to the organizational communication field and profession; career achievement; authorship, speaking and lecturing; contributions to IABC; and other professional recognition for community activities and other business-related activities.

"The Fellow selection process is never an easy one because there are always many qualified nominees," said Brad Whitworth, ABC, 2012 Fellows Committee Chair. "The committee selected an outstanding IABC leader this year in Barbara. When you read her biography that shows her contributions to the communication profession and his volunteer activities for IABC and other organizations, you can't help but be impressed. We're delighted to welcome her as an IABC Fellow."

Barbara Puffer MA, ABC, Associate Professor, University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Communications Studies, has been selected to receive the 2011 UMUC Teaching Recognition Award for the School of Undergraduate Studies. This honor comes on the heels of her fourth nomination for the prestigious annual Stanley J. Drazek Teaching Excellence and UMUC Teaching Recognition Awards.


Nominees demonstrate an ability to: "help students meet and exceed course objectives; encourage students to see new professional possibilities for themselves; and inspire students to apply course skills, concepts, or models to their work or community."
